Concrete inspection at the Ibbenbüren power plant

Large industrial premises, e.g. chemistry centres or power plants, undergo annual maintenance checks.
Actual operations are suspended and all processes, machines and buildings undergo thorough examination.

In this context, Rope Access Solutions was contracted to survey and document parts of the building structure of a 126-metre-high cooling tower.

To do this, the circulation of the cooling tower had to be checked for traces of corrosion on both the inside and outside, and possible crack formations mapped.

Rebound hammer tests and further methods to determine the degree of carbonisation were also carried out.

Finally, a simple visual inspection of the external frame was conducted on selected areas and documented in an abseiling area beyond the total height.

2 height workers completed the project agreed on with the client.
The total construction period spanned from 23 October to 2 November 2005 with lengthy breaks because of incipient autumn storms.
